Around Vijaypur Wayfarer Retreat Uttaranchal :
Wayfarer Retreat is an ideal getaway for all those in search of a longish escape from over crowded cities. Sometimes it could be a convenient stop over for travellers heading to and from Munsyari.

For all nature lovers there are several trails that lead into the surrounding forest. A variety of Himalayan birds can be seen in and around the area. Some of the attractions include red-billed blue magpie, blossom headed parakeet, black headed oriole, thrush, jungle myna and bush chat. Close to the Retreat is a musk deer farm which involves an easy trek of two kilometres from the road head.

Around 45 kilometres away is Patal Bhubaneshwar. This is a "must see" for all guests at Retreat. Patal Bhubaneshwar offers a surreal experience - a complex maze of underground caves serrated with fang-like stalactites and stalagmites. Some chambers are large enough to host an orchestral performance. The entry to the caves is through a narrow tunnel where one has to lower oneself in single file with the help of iron chains.

The Retreat often serves as a base camp for trekkers going up to Pindari and Sunderdunga glaciers. The Wayfarer group regularly conducts these and other glacial treks whose details are available at http://www.trekkinginhimalayas.com.

Season Vijaypur Wayfarer Retreat Uttaranchal :
Wayfarer Retreat is a round the year resort. In summer it is just cool at Vijaypur - the days are pleasant and the nights are cool. During monsoon months the entire landscape is green. Autumn brings settled weather and clear skies offering excellent sighting of the Himalayas. In winter the surrounding ranges are covered in a blanket of snow and the temperature at Vijaypur ranges from 0oC to 10oC. Wayfarer Retreat remains fully operational throughout the year.

Journey from Vijaypur to Munsyari :
The initial drive is pleasant - against the backdrop of the spectacular Himalayan ranges there are quaint villages at intermittent points till Thal where you cross the flowing Ramganga. Thereafter the route follows the river and gradually the climb begins. Beyond Girgaon the land scape changes dramatically and you are now in magnificent mountain country. Sharp rock faces, hairpin bends, blooming rhododendrons and, sometimes, patches of snow are there to greet you. At 9000ft the road touches Kala Muni temple from where you descend into a different land that has totally different topography and where you meet different people. This is Munsyari - somewhat harder to describe but fantastic to get to know. Map Kumaon - Vijaypur >>>
