Around
Ranikhet
Wayfarer Solitaire Uttaranchal
:
Wayfarer Solitaire is eleven kilometers away from Ranikhet
town and is thus far removed from the crowded mall. Rows and rows
of pine and a sparsely populated village are what makes the surrounding
area ideal for long walks into the wilderness.
For people who wish to venture out on day excursions visits to Chaubatia
gardens (15 kms), the lake at Bhaludam (18 kms), the plateau of
Upat (8 km) that has a nine-hole golf course ringed by tall pines
can be pleasant.
For people who have an extra day to spare a trip to the temple complex
at Jageshwar is strongly recommended.
Jageshwar is a temple complex dating back to the eighth and ninth
centuries A.D. comprising over 150 shrines in the Shikhara style,
and set in a narrow riverine valley enveloped by tall deodars. Counted
amongst the twelve Jyotirlingas, Jageshwar is regarded as an important
Shaivite pilgrim centre. The serpentine road to Jageshwar is flanked
by tall deodar trees, which appear to be like peaceful hermits meditating
in the calm and serene environs.
Season
Ranikhet Wayfarer Solitaire Uttaranchal
: Wayfarer Solitaire is a round the year resort.
In summer it has the ideal climate for a quick getaway, with pleasant
days and cool nights. During monsoon months the surrounding area
is all lush green and just after a heavy shower the smell of pine
is all pervading. Autumn brings splashes of rust and vermillion
hues to the trees while the sighting of the Himalayas is almost
picture perfect. In winter the temperature ranges between 0oC to
15oC and Wayfarer Solitaire remains fully operational.

Journey
from Ranikhet to Vijaypur : Driving from Ranikhet to Vijaypur
provides ample opportunity to feast on several contrasting views
like that of the dense pines opening out into a mosaic of fields
in the Garur Valley from the road leading from Kausani. The valley
is a deep bowl with the Gomti River flowing through it past Baijnath,
the main temple in the region. Baijnath has ancient temples dedicated
to Shiva, Parvati, Ganesh, Kuber, Surya & Brahma. The oldest
shrine in this complex was built in the 12th Century. Priceless
stone carvings can be seen in the Baijnath Museum next to the temples.
